Clearwater Valley Resort

The place to stay on your visit to Wells Gray Provincial Park

The Clearwater Valley Resort is open May 1 to October 15.  For winter accommodation click here.

Winter Activities

In winter, tremendous snowfalls and moderate temperatures create a fantastic winter playground.  Clearwater is definitely a must for winter enthusiasts; cross-country skiing, dog sledding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing to name a few.  We even have a small ski hill.

Cross-country skiing

In the area we have over 80 kilometers of groomed trails.  There are three major cross country track set ski areas:

Clearwater
Candle Creek Ski Trails
North Thompson Park

Wells Gray Park
Ski Trail - 32 KM of groomed track set (classic) with incredible scenery.

Click here for information on ski trails and the Wells Gray Outdoor Club

You can rent cross country ski equipment at Helmcken Falls Lodge or the Tanglewood Bed and Breakfast.   Tanglewood also sells skis and other cross county skiing accessories. See lodging page for phone numbers.

Back-country skiing

There are many cross-country skiing possibilities available to those who are willing to break trail, such as the Pyramid Mountain Trail, Placid Lake Trail, Green Mountain, or the Clearwater Lake Access Road, which is snowed in all winter. As with any mountainous area difficulty of breaking trail depends a lot on snow conditions, check ahead.

Dog Sledding

If you have not tried dog sledding here is your chance with Alaskan Husky Adventures*.  Their dogs are professionally trained Alaskan Racing Huskies.  This is the ride of your life - whether driving OR riding in the sled - great for kids, beginners, or experienced outdoor enthusiasts. Phone: (250) 587-0037 http://www.dogsleddingadventures.com

Ski Hill*

Tired of paying high lift prices on crowded hills, try the Clearwater Ski Hill. Unbelievable rates so the whole family can enjoy the day (the price of a movie and popcorn).  Call 1-250-674-3848 for more information. Check also on ski conditions. http://www.ntvalley.com/skiclearwater/

Snowmobiling

There are a number of snowmobiling trails at Raft Mountain. Call the Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club at 674-0003 (Tony)

Ice Fishing & Skating

For those hearty fishermen, Dutch Lake and other lakes in the area have ice fishing in the winter.  The public beach at Dutch lake also clears away the snow for a  skating rink. Clearwater also has an indoor skating rink and curling arena.

While we cannot accommodate in winter there are a number of places in Clearwater which can. Please click here.
